TAROM overview
TAROM is a Romanian network airline with IATA code RO, ICAO code ROT and callsign TAROM. IATA lists the legal name as S.C. Compania Nationala de Transporturi Aeriene Romane TAROM S.A.
The airline was established in 1954, operates under Romania's transport authority and has been a SkyTeam member since 25 June 2010. TAROM flights are centered on Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport and may include TAROM-operated flights, SkyTeam partners, other code-share partners or connecting carriers, so passengers should check the operating carrier before relying on baggage, check-in or special-service rules.
TAROM routes
TAROM routes connect Romania with domestic cities, European capitals and selected destinations in the Middle East and North Africa. The airline also sells destinations served with code-share partners, so the examples below are route examples rather than a guarantee for every departure date.
- Domestic examples may include Bucharest to Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Iasi, Suceava, Oradea and Baia Mare.
- European examples may include Bucharest to Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid, Frankfurt, Rome, Nice, Prague, Athens, Thessaloniki, Sofia, Belgrade, Brussels, Budapest and Chisinau.
- Beyond Europe, examples may include Bucharest to Istanbul, Amman, Beirut, Cairo and Tel Aviv, subject to schedule, traffic rights and operational conditions.
- For a specific date, check the current schedule, operating carrier and baggage rule, then search TAROM flights before relying on a destination.
TAROM baggage
TAROM hand baggage is counted together with a personal item, with a total maximum weight of 8 kg. On Boeing aircraft, the cabin-bag dimensions are listed as 55x40x20 cm, with a maximum total of 115 cm. On ATR 72 aircraft, the cabin-bag dimensions are smaller: 35x30x20 cm, with a maximum total of 85 cm.
Checked baggage depends on fare, class, route, aircraft and operating carrier. General TAROM rules list Economy as up to 1 standard piece of 23 kg and Business as up to 2 standard pieces of 32 kg each, with 158 cm maximum total dimensions per piece, except where LIGHT fares or special route tables apply. Infants without a seat can have 1 piece up to 10 kg and 115 cm plus one collapsible stroller.
LIGHT fares do not include checked baggage. On flights from or to Amman, Beirut, Cairo and in the fare-family tables for Istanbul, some Economy OPTIM and FLEX products can include 2 checked pieces of 23 kg, while Economy LIGHT includes no checked baggage. Extra, heavy, oversized and sports baggage is charged by zone and must respect aircraft limits.
TAROM check-in
TAROM online check-in is available through the official website for eligible electronic-ticket passengers and is listed as opening 30 hours before scheduled departure and closing 1 hour before departure. During online check-in, passengers can identify the booking, check in, change a seat where available and print or download the boarding pass.
For technical reasons, online check-in for TAROM flights departing Oradea or Cairo may allow check-in but restrict boarding-pass issuance, so passengers collect the boarding pass at the airport counter. Starting 10 April 2026, EES checks for non-EU travelers arriving in the Schengen Area may also require additional airport processing.
Airport check-in on TAROM flights generally opens 3 hours before departure and closes 45 minutes before departure, although airport facilities, partner-operated flights and local rules can change deadlines. TAROM recommends arriving at least 2 hours before the scheduled flight time, and the contact FAQ also advises at least 3 hours before international flights.
TAROM fares and services
TAROM fare families published for Europe include Economy Promo Light, Economy Promo, Economy Light, Economy Saver, Economy Optim, Economy Flex, Business Semiflex and Business Fullyflex. Similar fare-family tables are published for Amman, Cairo, Beirut and Istanbul, but baggage allowances differ on some of those route groups.
All listed fare families include hand baggage and a personal item within the 8 kg total hand-baggage limit. Economy Promo Light and Economy Light do not include checked baggage. Economy Promo and Economy Saver usually include 1 checked bag of 23 kg, while Economy Optim and Economy Flex include 1 checked bag on Europe routes and can include 2 checked bags on the Amman, Beirut, Cairo and Istanbul route groups shown in the TAROM table.
Restrictions become lighter as the fare increases. Promo Light and Promo are not rebookable or refundable and do not include miles. Light and Saver allow rebooking for a fee plus any fare difference but are not refundable. Optim allows rebooking for a fee, refund for a fee, miles and standard seat selection. Flex allows rebooking for fare difference, free refund, included seat selection and earlier flight on the day of travel where available.
Business Semiflex includes 1 checked bag of 32 kg, seat selection, meals and SkyPriority benefits, with rebooking and refund for a fee. Business Fullyflex includes 2 checked bags of 32 kg each, seat selection, meals, SkyPriority benefits, free refund and rebooking for any fare difference. Exact change, refund, no-show and service conditions must be checked during booking.
TAROM services
TAROM services can include advance seat reservation, additional checked baggage, sports equipment, pets, meal pre-order, Business Class meal options, lounge access for eligible passengers, SkyPriority airport services, special assistance, medical clearance, oxygen therapy provided by TAROM for a fee, and unaccompanied minor service.
Seat selection can be added during booking or through My Booking, and it is free in Economy for FLEX fares and eligible Elite Plus members; on international flights, Business Cabin seat selection is free. Extra baggage can be purchased during booking, later through My Booking, through the TAROM Call Center or agencies, with published examples from EUR 40 when the first extra standard Economy piece is paid up to 48 hours before departure on Romanian domestic routes.
Sports equipment fees depend on zone and item. Published examples start from EUR 30 for golf, fishing or ski equipment in Zone 1, while many other sports-equipment categories cost more and may need TAROM authorization. Economy passengers can pre-order selected meals for a fee up to 24 hours before scheduled departure where available; Business passengers have included catering options. The unaccompanied minor service is published from EUR 60 per segment on domestic flights and EUR 100 per segment on international flights.
TAROM pets
TAROM accepts only cats and dogs in the passenger cabin. The pet and carrier together must weigh up to 8 kg, and the cabin carrier must not exceed 42x26x20 cm. The service must be confirmed before check-in or boarding, and TAROM asks passengers to contact the Call Center before booking because cabin pet space is limited.
Cabin pets must be healthy, clean, not pregnant, kept inside the closed carrier for the whole flight and supported by required documents such as a pet passport, microchip and vaccination evidence where applicable. Cabin pets are not allowed when the passenger travels with an unaccompanied minor, an infant or a wheelchair request; ATR aircraft allow only soft pet bags in the cabin.
Dogs and cats over 8 kg including kennel can be transported in the hold on eligible aircraft with prior reservation and confirmation. The pet and container together must not exceed 75 kg, live animals are not accepted in the hold on Airbus A320 aircraft, and snub-nosed cats and dogs are not accepted in the hold. Published fee examples start from EUR 40 for a cabin pet in Zone 1 and EUR 60 for a hold pet in Zone 1. Assistance and guide dogs are handled separately and can travel free of charge when accepted.

FAQ
-
Important before departure
Before departure, check the exact TAROM ticket and booking conditions rather than relying only on a general profile. Baggage, online check-in, airport deadlines, travel documents, pets, children services, special assistance and code-share rules may depend on fare family, route, airport, departure date, aircraft type and operating carrier.
- Confirm cabin and checked baggage in the ticket, especially for LIGHT fares, ATR aircraft, Amman, Beirut, Cairo, Istanbul, partner-operated and code-share flights.
- Online check-in is generally listed from 30 hours to 1 hour before departure, but some airports such as Oradea and Cairo may require boarding-pass collection at the airport.
- For international routes, verify passport, visa, transit, EES, pet-document and destination-entry rules before travel.
- Request confirmation for pets, sports equipment, oxygen, medical clearance, wheelchair assistance and unaccompanied minors before travel where possible.
-
What baggage is included with TAROM?
Included TAROM baggage depends on fare, route and cabin. Economy fares often include 1 checked bag up to 23 kg, but Economy LIGHT and Promo Light do not include checked baggage. Business fares include 1 or 2 checked bags of 32 kg depending on Semiflex or Fullyflex and route conditions.

-
When does TAROM online check-in open?
