Best routes for Eurowings

Eurowings overview

Eurowings is a German airline with IATA code EW, ICAO code EWG and callsign EUROWINGS. The legal company name is Eurowings GmbH. The carrier is part of the Lufthansa Group and positions its product around direct short- and medium-haul flights.

Eurowings rules can vary by fare, route, airport, departure date, aircraft, partner airline and operating carrier. This is especially important for baggage, airport check-in, seat selection, pets, special assistance and itineraries sold with partner airlines.

Eurowings routes

Eurowings routes are schedule-dependent and may change by season, airport, aircraft and partner operations. Eurowings describes a network of around 150 destinations in more than 50 countries, with strong coverage from Germany to European city, business and leisure destinations.

  • German departure examples may include Dusseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Berlin, Hannover, Dortmund and Nuremberg.
  • European route examples may include Palma de Mallorca, Vienna, Salzburg, Prague, London, Manchester, Milan, Rome, Barcelona, Malaga, Alicante, Lisbon, Porto, Athens, Heraklion, Bastia, Helsinki and Pristina.
  • Leisure and neighbouring-region examples may include destinations in the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Greece, Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, the Balkans and the Middle East.
  • Some flights are seasonal, operate only on selected days or are sold with partner airlines, so the operating carrier and baggage rules should be checked for the exact date.
  • For specific dates, use iFly.ua to search Eurowings flights by route and travel period.

Eurowings baggage

Eurowings baggage is strongly fare-based. Every fare includes one small underseat bag up to 40 x 30 x 25 cm. A large cabin bag is up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm and 8 kg: it is included in SMART, two pieces are included in BIZclass, and BASIC passengers can add it for a fee.

Checked baggage is not automatically included in BASIC, but can be added online, with published entry prices from EUR 17 for selected checked-bag options. SMART includes one checked bag up to 23 kg. BIZclass includes two checked bags up to 32 kg each. Additional baggage, heavy bags, oversize items and special baggage are subject to availability, route and service fees.

Sports equipment such as skis, snowboard, bicycle or sports weapons can be handled as sports or special baggage, usually with a maximum of 32 kg for the item category. On fully booked flights, Eurowings may ask passengers outside BIZclass to check compliant hand baggage free of charge for hold carriage.

Eurowings check-in

Eurowings online and mobile check-in is free and generally opens 72 hours before departure. The standard online closing time is 3 hours before departure, but at most German departure airports online check-in can remain available until 40 minutes before departure. Some airports and routes have different deadlines.

Airport check-in is free for SMART and BIZclass passengers. BASIC passengers may pay for airport check-in, with Eurowings publishing a lower price when airport check-in is selected during booking and a higher counter charge if chosen at the airport. Where online check-in is unavailable or a confirmed special service requires airport handling, passengers should proceed to the counter early.

Eurowings fares and services

Eurowings fare families include BASIC, SMART and BIZclass. BASIC is the budget fare and lets passengers add baggage, seat selection and other services as needed. SMART is the standard fare and includes one checked bag, one large cabin bag, free airport check-in and standard seat reservation. BIZclass is the premium fare on selected short- and medium-haul routes, with a larger baggage allowance and premium services.

Flex options can be attached to selected bookings and may change the rebooking or cancellation rules. Fare conditions, seat selection, checked baggage, airport check-in, lounge access, priority services, refunds, changes and partner-flight rules depend on the exact ticket and booking channel.

Eurowings services

Eurowings services may include seat reservation, extra baggage, large cabin bag, priority check-in, evening-before bag drop at selected airports, self-service bag drop, sports and special baggage, Wings Bistro food and drinks, pet transport in the cabin, special assistance, group bookings, charter options and booking changes through Manage booking.

Availability and price depend on fare, airport, route, aircraft, departure date, operating carrier and the time of purchase. Additional services are usually cheaper when added online before check-in closes than when handled at the airport counter.

Eurowings pets

Eurowings transports small dogs and cats up to 8 kg, including the transport bag, in the passenger cabin on eligible short- and medium-haul flights. The pet must travel in a soft suitable bag that fits under the seat, normally up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm. Eurowings does not carry ordinary pets in the hold under this passenger pet service.

Country, route, animal-health, breed, age and documentation rules apply. The pet-in-cabin service must be confirmed before travel, the required form should be prepared, and online check-in may not be available for bookings with a pet. Recognised assistance dogs follow separate rules.

Eurowings contacts

Eurowings support is organized through the Eurowings website, Manage booking, the contact form, FAQ/self-service pages, airport counters and the call center. The Eurowings call center is published as +49 (0)221 599 882 22 and is listed as available daily from 06:00 to 24:00 CET.

For baggage loss or damage, passengers should contact baggage tracing at the arrival airport or use Eurowings baggage self-service. Before travelling with Eurowings EW, recheck your booking because baggage, online check-in, airport fees, travel documents, pets, children, special assistance and partner-flight rules can depend on fare, route, airport, departure date, aircraft and operating carrier.

    • Verify passport, ID, visa, health, pet, child and special-assistance documents for every country in the itinerary.
    • If your itinerary includes partner airlines, check which carrier operates each flight and which rules apply.
